Irish Skib - Medium
The Irish Skib is one of very few truly traditional Irish baskets. Born out of limited resources and a need for mutlifunctionality, the Skib was used to strain and serve potatoes - once the mainstay of the Irish diet.
After all had been eaten, the basket was hit against an outside wall and the hens or pigs got the "leavings". It was then washed and hun on a wooden peg.
Today, this basket is being used as fruit or bread platter, or simply as a beautiful decorative ornament in any household.
